The Sheriff's mission is to protect life and property from criminal activity and maintain the public peace and safety by enforcing the law. The activities of this agency include: arresting people committing (or attempting to commit) public offenses; serving legal papers on Butte-Silver Bow residents; suppressing breaches of the peace, riots and insurrections; crime prevention activities; patrolling the community; crime investigation; testifying in court proceedings; and administering various community relation programs. The Sheriff is an elected position. Administrative Offices are located 225 Alaska Street.

The Detention Facility is located at 155 W. Quartz Street, Butte. The phone number is 497-1040.

The mission of the Fire Department is to provide the highest level of fire protection by means of prevention, suppression, and education. Divisions within the Department include: suppression, prevention, training, communications, and maintenance.

The functions of the Fire Department include providing manpower and equipment to suppress fires, fire prevention services, building inspections, fire investigation, and delivery of emergency medical services.

The municipality is served by the Fire Department, 34 full time personnel and over 150 volunteer fire department personnel. For non-emergencies call (406) 497-6481. To report a fire or medical emergency, dial 911.

The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for assessing community preparation to reduce the consequences of and respond to an emergergency or disaster event.  It does so by developing, implementing, and maintaining emergency preparedness plans; it also supports emergency response activities by coordinating resuorces and personnel from the Emergency Operations Center.

Through planning, training, and exercising, our goal is the protection of lives, property, and the environment from disasters of any nature.

The objective of the Parking Commission is to regulate and control parking in the uptown Butte area to assure a continual flow of vehicles through the area. The functions of the department include providing adequate parking facilities for the area work force and retail trade traffic: providing patrol services, ticket issuance, ticket processing, and acquisition and design parking lots.

This department operates on revenues derived through the regulation of parking and no taxes support this operation. For more information call (406) 497-6270.
