The Goal of the Parks Department is to provide maximum recreation possibilities within existing resources. There are presently 29 completed parks in Butte-Silver Bow, including skating rinks, golf courses, pools, and sports fields. The parks include neighborhood parks, tot lots, and community parks.

The purpose of the Developmental Disabilities Council is to provide services to persons with developmental disabilities.
Services include: supported living services, information and referral, program coordination, program design and development and public relations. The Director acts as a liaison between Butte-Silver Bow and the National Office of Disabilities.
The Developmental Disability office is located in the Business Development Center, 305 W. Mercury.

The objective of Government Buildings Management is to maintain all buildings owned by Butte-Silver Bow. Building maintenance includes janitorial services, engineering services, painting, and carpentry.
The Butte National Historic Landmark District is the largest of its kind in the country. Please visit our MAPS page to view a map of our historical landmark district. Funding comes from Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and housing loan pay backs.

The mission of the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department is to promote individual, community, and environmental health by understanding, anticipating, and responding to the health-related needs of the community. The scope of the responsibilities include: prevention of epidemics; protection of the environment, workplace, and food and water; monitoring of health status of the community; promotion of behaviors; mobilization of the community to respond to severe health risks; and responding to disasters.

The Substance Dependency Program is funded in part by the State of Montana and in part by user fees. The mission of the program is to provide effective counseling services to substance abusers. Some program users are referred by the Court system.

Family Planning

The Family Planning Program provides reproductive health services and education. The mission of the program is to reduce all unintended pregnancies, promote reproductive health, and treat sexually transmitted diseases (STD's).
Under this program is the Miami Follow Me program, Maternal Child Health, and Infant/Child Immunizations. Home visits are conducted to provide advice and assistance to pregnant women.

Montana Lead Prevention Program
The Montana Lead Prevention Program serves the community by educating families about lead poisoning and testing young children for exposures to lead.
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
The mission of the WIC program is to provide nutritional aid to women, infants, and children who are in need of these services. The primary source of programmatic funding is the Federal Government. The Public Library provides a variety of suitable materials, services, and programs to meet the informational needs of the community members of all ages.
The Library maintains a collection including books, newspapers, periodicals, audio-visual materials in several formats and online databases. Reference services, interlibrary loan and public access computers with Internet connections are available. The Library also provides information in person, by phone, or in writing.
Children's story hour is held every Friday at 11:15. Public meeting room space is available for appropriate use by the community.

The objective of the Superintendent of Schools is to provide general supervision over all public schools within Butte-Silver Bow, including Ramsay, Divide and Melrose. The office supervises and perform several general administrative duties. The County Superintendent of Schools is an elected position.

The governments of the city of Butte and Silver Bow County combined in 1977. The government is lead by the Chief Executive, Paul Babb and a 12-member Council of Commissioners.
Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. MDT, with no noon closure. Business offices are closed for State and Federal holidays.
Essential Public Works Services, (water, sewer, and road maintenance) are available 24 hours, seven days a week.

The function of the Butte-Silver Bow Government is to serve the citizens of the city of Butte and Silver Bow County. Our government's goal is to improve and maintain governmental operations and conditions within the boundaries of Silver Bow County.
