Courthouse Dome Restoration
December 9, 2014 - The Butte-Silver Bow courthouse rotunda was bustling over several days as crews worked to install the restored glass dome in the historic building.
Contractor Bovard Studio began restoration work in August 2014. Bovard was instrumental in the restoration of the Montana State Capitol Building’s 100-foot barrel vault and other famous historic stained-glass masterpieces.
The installation of the dome’s glass panels took about two days, the crews removed the scaffolding erected in the rotunda to facilitate the project. The center area of the courthouse rotunda was closed to public access while the installation was completed and the scaffolding was down. The public had access to enjoy all other courthouse offices and facilities.
Butte-Silver Bow held a ceremony in mid-January 2015 to commemorate the dome restoration.
